Stars Including Janet Jackson And Justin Timberlake Mourn The Loss Of Music Director Daniel Jones
Tyler Perry is sounding off on how he felt the bidding process for BET went down.
According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (via The Hollywood Reporter) Perry said during a Bloomberg Equality Summit in Atlanta that he was “disappointed” in how Paramount Global handled the potential sell of BET, including the original channel, BET+, BET Studios and VH1. As he said, “I was disappointed about it for a number of reasons. The way it happened was disrespectful in a lot of ways.”
Perry added, “Don’t try to get me to pay for something that’s not worth anywhere near the value” Paramount said it was worth. He also added that he would not reconsider if Paramount put BET up for sale again.
Perry’s comments refer to Paramount’s decision to renege on the sale after realizing that the sale wouldn’t offset the company’s debts as much as previously thought. The bidders at the time included not only Perry, but Byron Allen and Diddy. At the time, Perry was quoted as saying he wanted to take “as much of [BET] as I can.”
Even though he was annoyed with Paramount, Perry still said that he is still working with them via his minority stake in BET+ and creating content for BET Networks and Nickelodeon.
“God bless them,” he said about Paramount. “I’m still working with them. I wish them the best.”
