Obama: Black History is American History

(18 Feb 2016) President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama hosted a reception in the East Room of the White House on Thursday in honor of Black History Month.
“We are so proud to honor this rich heritage but Black History Month shouldn’t be treated as though it is somehow separate from our collective American history,” Obama said during the reception.
Earlier in the day, Obama met with civil rights leaders to discuss issues such as criminal justice and building trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
