The Gospel Explosion has been a staple of Black History Month activities since the inception of celebrating the entire month in 1990 at the University of Memphis. Gospel music is a great part of the rich heritage in Memphis and the root of most musical genres. The Black History Month Committee strives each year to bring an exceptional Gospel Explosion Concert as we celebrate the integral part that gospel music plays in Black Culture. The 2021 concert features Lisa Knowles-Smith & The Brown Singers.
