The Five Goals of Brain Words

Brain Words offers these FIVE GOALS to help you understand the science behind effective reading instruction and word study to dramatically improve literacy outcomes in your classroom.

Goal 1

Rethink reading instruction and word study as a better, more efficacious way to build each student’s dictionary in the brain (i.e., brain words), which leads to more successful readers and writers.

Goal 4

Present a clear view of word reading instruction for beginning readers tied to the science behind developmentally appropriate K–1 reading, writing, and spelling development.

Goal 5

Continue building the dictionary in the reading brain in second through sixth grades, which is critical for continued progress throughout elementary school and into the middle grades.
