In late January of 1963, Malcolm X delivered a famous speech at the Erickson Kiva entitled “The Race Problem in America.”

This event was made possible thanks to a gift by Dr. Iltefat Hamzavi, father of MSU alum Zaakir Hamzavi, in honor of his father, the late Dr. Latafat Hamzavi.

Organized by the Muslim Studies Program and cosponsored by the College of Education, Department of African American & African Studies, Department of Religious Studies, James Madison College, Office for Institutional Diversity and Inclusion, and Peace & Justice Studies.
