Why don't black actors develop their own economic empire?
Actress Viola Davis recently stated that it’s been a “struggle” since she was nominated for an Oscar. For most actors, the nomination opens doors, but this was not quite the case for Viola.
This leads Nomalanga and I to go down an interesting path of conversation about what it would take for Hollywood actors of color to come together to create their own products and their own channels of distribution.
Why not create a black version of Hollywood? Maybe that’s the next move for African American actors and actresses to create opportunity.
