The Battery | Juneteenth: A Delay of Freedom
Juneteenth is a celebration that is intended to commemorate freedom and emphasizes education & achievement. For many African Americans, it is also a time for personal reflection, self-assessment, self-improvement, rejoicing, & planning for the future. Yet most people only connect this celebration to emancipation and the long shadow cast by this time still persists today.
Join us for a conversation about Juneteenth. During this discussion, we share historical perspective of why Juneteenth exists, what it means & extrapolate how it has impacted American culture & communities of color over time. We specifically focus on telling the story of how delaying the freedom for those deserving still persists in modern day society.
Perspectives of the Battery is a society that aims to showcase culture experiences of all Battery Members around a series of cultivated conversations. We aspire to serve as an intersectional meeting point where conversations connect across all Battery societies. We welcome any member of the Battery community who is interested in helping to shape the future of The Battery community and its culture.
