During T.I.’s rant, he insisted that he has respect for anybody living in their truth unapologetically and commended them for their bravery. But the Atlanta native began to bash singer Lil Nas X’s artistry, seemingly referring to his music video for his latest single, “Industry Baby,” featuring Jack Harlow.
“I had a lot of respect for bro because he had the courage to live his truth, but that s**t ain’t for me,” T.I. said. “I ain’t got no business looking at it, I just can’t look at it.
“If you gon’ have the Lil Nas X video and him living his truth, you gon’ damn sure have people like DaBaby who gon’ speak their truth and it ain’t nothing wrong with none of it. It ain’t got to be no hate, it’s all honesty,” he added.
The 40-year-old also mentioned that he didn’t want his children seeing “those types of visual presentations.”
“And I don’t want my children seeing it, either,” he said. “Because their minds haven’t developed to the place where they can wrap their minds around those types of experiences and those types of visual presentations and know how to sort it out within their perception.”
Lil Nas X, born Montero Lamar Hill, defended himself against other critics of his new song, particularly one who felt the 22-year-old was perpetuating “sexual irresponsibility.”
“Y’all be silent as hell when n****s dedicate their entire music catalogue to rapping about sleeping with multiple women,” he wrote in a response tweet. “But when i do anything remotely sexual i’m “being sexually irresponsible” & “causing more men to die from aids” y’all hate gay ppl and don’t hide it.”
