It is the month of February which also celebrates Black History Month. In today’s video, we want to teach you about Malcom Little, or more commonly known as Malcom X and how Malcom, his life and his work helped pave and change the Civil Rights Movement in the USA.
Here are some facts that will be in this learning video for kids:
* Malcolm Little was born in Omaha, Nebraska on May 19, 1925. When he was young, His family moved around often, but he spent most of his childhood in East Lansing, Michigan.
*At 15, Malcolm dropped out of high school after an encounter with his English teacher. His English teacher told him he would never become a lawyer, because he was black.
*Malcolm X was arrested in 1946 for robbery. He was caught by bringing a stolen watch he had taken to a repair shop to be fixed. He was sentenced to 10 years of prison.
*In 1958, he married Betty Jean Sanders, a nurse as well as a civil rights activist.
*Malcom X went on a pilgrimage to see the Islamic holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia.
This is a great teacher resource for teachers who are teaching a unit on Black History or the biography Malcolm X for kindergarten, first or second grade students. Also a great resource for the homeschool environment.
