Louisiana state troopers texted about the ‘whoopin’ they gave a Black man: ‘He’s gonna have nightmares’
A Louisiana state trooper joked in a group text about brutalized a Black man after a high-speed chase in May 2020 according to court documents. 30-year-old Trooper Jacob Brown was charged in the beating of 29-year-old Antonio Harris. On March 10 Brown resigned from his position. Brown sent messages to three of his colleagues in a group text after Harris was beaten and arrested. In one message troopers joked that the “whoopin” Harris got would give him “nightmares for a long time.”
“He gonna be sore tomorrow for sure,” Brown said. “Warms my heart knowing we could educate that young man.”
Brown initially pulled Harris over for a minor traffic violation, Harris got back into his car and drove away. Then a chase began that lasted for 29 miles, reaching speeds of 150 mph. The pursuit ended after officers used a tire deflation device that caused Harris to veer off the road into a ditch. Harris “immediately” surrendered, but the officers used an excessive amount of force. Harris “laid face down (prone) on the ground and extended his arms away from his body and his legs spread apart,” was approached by Trooper Dakota DeMoss, who delivered a “knee strike,” and slapped him on the ground before shutting off his body camera.
