Read the full interview below.

What is the biggest thing you’ve learned as an SGA president so far?

The biggest thing I’ve learned about being SGA President so far, is that no matter what you do, always remember you have students and even faculty looking up at you for motivation

What made you decide to attend Southern University Shreveport for undergrad?

The reason I chose Southern University Shreveport is because they offer some of the best programs in the state of Louisiana. They are also family oriented and make college a whole lot easier.

How has Southern University Shreveport molded you into the person you are today?

Southern University Shreveport has molded me to be a better understanding person. They have also help me to become more professional and outgoing.

What specific initiatives have you headed up this year (or are planning) and how do you think they will improve the school and surrounding community?

Bringing student life back to campus was my main goal and so far I have been achieving that goal.

How is your SGA administration/school currently working on attending to the mental health of students?

We have mental Health Wednesday and we have people who work in that career field come out and talk to our students and hand out different resources that will benefit them. We also have fun activities for the students to enjoy when they need a break away from class.

What does leadership mean to you?

Leadership to me means being able to pass down good qualities to the next student. It also means setting expectations for other leaders to follow.

We now live in a digital world, what do you think schools need to do to represent themselves online in 2022/2023?

I think schools should post and advertise more on social media. By that I mean they should upload and post more pictures and videos of the different programs and activities they have.

Why do you think Watch The Yard is important to Black students and college culture?

I think Watch The Yard is important to black students and college because show the positive images that student and different colleges are doing. It help promote in a good way, they show the good and not bad. Its also an opportunity to promote for the different HBCU.

What do you plan on doing after graduation?

I plan to attend Texas Southern University.

We at Watch The Yard would like to commend Kerriuna Curry for her work as the SGA president of Southern University Shreveport.
