Janet Jackson, who turned 55 on Sunday, has auctioned off the outfit that she wore in the “Scream” music video, accepting a bid for $125,000 on the item.  The iconic singer sold the items as part of a three-day event organized in partnership with Beverly Hills auction house, Julien’s Auctions, TMZ reported. 

According to Julien’s Auctions, the outfit included “a black circular ‘bubble’ textured fabric long-sleeve shirt by Dexter Wong, a pair of black patent leather pants and a pair of black patent leather over-the-ankle chunky low-heel boots.”

The auction, titled “Iconic Treasures From the legendary Career and Life of Janet Jackson,” featured thousands of the singer’s memorabilia amassed over four decades.

Another jacket, which went for $81,250 on Friday, was featured when Jackson headlined as a solo artist for the first time on her 1990 Rhythm Nation tour, Reuters reported. 

In addition, the singer’s earring, which she wore on tour in 1990 and at multiple other events, sold for $43,750. Another pair of earrings, which the entertainer received from Oprah Winfrey in 2005, were also up for auction. 

According to The Hollywood Reporter, items sold over the weekend included Jackson’s floor-length metallic silver coat with lambskin shearling lining, cuffs and collar designed by Helen Storey, as well as silver string bikini and a pair of matching pants worn underneath the coat.

Proceeds from the event, which concludes on Sunday, will go to the Christian child sponsorship group Compassion International. 

 “I think one of the things that helped her expedite the auction process was the pandemic,” said Julien’s founder, Darren Julien, according to Variety. “Because she was gonna be locked down, and she just started realizing she has all these things in storage, she never gets to enjoy them, and she wanted to do something good with the proceeds to benefit a charity she cares about. I think it’s been very cathartic for her.”
