Chicago Man Stole $537,000 in coins while working as an armored car driver gets probation
A Chicago man plead guilty to stealing $537,088.22 in coins while he was working as an armored car driver in 2019 between May and August according to CWB Chicago. 31-year-old Cameron Bowman received a sentence of 24 months probation after he plead guilty to felony theft. Haberkorn ordered him to pay $525,000 restitution to his former employer, Thillens Cagistics.
Thillens management called police in August 2019 after they found discrepancies in Bowman’s transactions. Prosecutors alleged Bowman stole the coins by entering incorrect dollar amounts into the company’s computer system after completing his rounds, and taking the difference. Initially Bowman didn’t admit to any wrongdoing after he was asked about the missing coins. But he would later ask if he could leave and come back with the money. Then about an hour later, he came back to the office with a bag of $25,300 in $100 bills according to police.
Police didn’t say what Bowman did with all the coins the company accused him of stealing. Bowman’s partner was “forthcoming with information,” police said.
