(BPRW) Black History Month: The Art of Costume Designing

Meet Ruth E. Carter, Two-time Academy Award-Winning for Best Costume Design

(Black PR Wire) Miami, FL – It’s Black History Month, and during this time, we honor and celebrate the contributions and legacy of African Americans to the United States. In recognition of this year’s theme, which is African Americans and the Arts, Ruth E. Carter, a two-time Academy Award-winner, for best costume design joined the Thrivin’ in Color podcast for a spectacular conversation about her legendary career.

This special episode marks the premiere of the podcast’s second season and kicks off its one-year anniversary celebration. Ruth delves into an exciting conversation with host Camry Brown about her successful career as a costume designer and the inspiration behind her iconic creations. She also takes us through her creative process for designing the iconic Afrofuturistic pieces in the Black Panther films and the historically significant costumes for the Malcolm X (1993) film. “We’re thankful for the opportunity to continue sharing inspiring stories with our audience,” said Camry.  “Ms. Carter is such a talented gem, breaking barriers and making history. Listeners will not want to miss this episode.”

Ruth E. Carter, best known for turning the Black Panther superhero into an African King, made history as the first Black person to win the Costume Design category, earning Marvel Studios their first Oscar recognition. Carter made history again, for her outstanding costume design work on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. She became the first Black woman to win multiple Academy Awards in any category and the first costume designer to win for the first film and its sequel. Carter’s wisdom and stories are captured in her book The Art of Ruth E. Carter: Costuming Black History and the Afrofuture, from Do the Right Thing to Black Panther.
