Big Freedia Drops New Single With Lil Wayne; Song Comes 5 Years After Her Performance At His Weezyana

Big Freedia is preparing to roll out her new LP, Central City, and is dropping heat with another hometown hero. The “Queen of Bounce” teamed up with Lil Wayne and Boyfriend for the fourth single off the project: “El Niño.” In the press release for the new single, Freedia said the track is about overcoming obstacles. “El Niño’ is about going hard in any storms that come in your life and conquering them!”
The artist also mentioned her excitement about working with the Young Money founder, saying “We put it down for our city, and this song is gonna have everyone blowin’ down!”
Freedia’s first interaction with Lil Wayne came in 2015 when she hit the stage at the inaugural Weezyana Fest, which coincided with the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
Although upbeat, the song’s slow tempo start differs from Freedia’s high-energy bounce music that made her famous. As Lil Wayne kicks off the record with “Freedia I got you,” she comes on the record chanting, “I’m bout to go “El Niño.”
Boyfriend shines on the chorus with her verse: “This bi**h bout to be gone with the wind/ Coming at you with category 10/ This b***h is really on one again/ This b***h bout to be gone with the wind.”
Freedia comes in and drops her resume just in case anyone forgot. “That’s my voice on ‘Formation’/ Yea, I f**k with Drake/ And just called Wayne.”
