Arkansas woman survived month-long hospitalization billed nearly $1 million in medical bills
42-year-old Shenita Russie healthcare employee from Arkansas, claims that she owes almost a million dollars in medical bills after she was hospitalized due to COVID-19. The mobile respiratory therapist, reportedly got infected with the virus while working with COVID-19 patients in Boston when the pandemic first started.
When her condition got critical, she was placed in a medically-induced coma and was forced to stay in the hospital for over a month. Her medical bills accumulated to a huge amount.
“The bills? They are incredible,” she told THV11. “I mean it was close to a million dollars just for how sick I was on life support.”
Russie is still suffering from long COVID and hasn’t been able to work since she got sick. The healhcare worker now she has to utilize a cane to walk sometimes. Along with having to undergo cardiologist consultations and rehabilitations, which costs her more money.
Moreover, as a healthcare worker, Russie had worker’s compensation that covers some of the cost, but she’s still seeking help with her medical bills with University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and Baptist Health.
