Continuing the Legacy: Black Education in NC
In celebration of Black History Month, join the North Carolina Association for Public Charter Schools (NCAPCS) on February 22, 2021 from 3:00-4:00pm ET for a conversation about the history of black education in NC, with a focus on the role of public charter schools in the education of black students.
Several state and charter school leaders will share their reflections on the evolution of education in our state, including the impact of school choice and the role of public charter schools.
Ron Rice, Senior Director of Government Relations with the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, will moderate a panel discussion with Clarence Henderson, Civil Rights activist; Dr. Michelle Johnson, Superintendent of The College Preparatory and Leadership Academy; Marcus Brandon, Executive Director of CarolinaCAN; Eric Sanchez, Founder of Henderson Collegiate Charter School; and Cheryl Turner, Superintendent of Sugar Creek Charter School. The panel will discuss the impact on black students who attend public charter schools supported by leaders of color and much more.
