Black Authors Breakfast Party
The Black Authors Breakfast Party for the African-American Read-In was conceived by DC Author and Literacy Consultant Caroline Brewer was a way to celebrate and bring attention to the works of black authors in DC and across the U.S. Because when we read a book, recite a poem, tell a story, or sing a song by a black writer, or listen as they read, sing, or talk to us, we build community. And in the building of community, we create something new and remarkable, something that can uplift, enlighten, and heal. Which is in keeping with the African-American Read-In, started by Jerrie Cobb Scott, of the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) in 1990. This first party was held February 1 at and co-hosted by Signal Financial Federal Credit Union, 1101 New York Ave NW, DC and supported by NCTE.
