Black History Month – Voices of Resistance: A Celebration of Black History and Imagining Futures
For its first-ever Black History Month event (2023), KAIROS celebrated and honored the legacy of Black activists and communities, people of Afro-descent and from the Diaspora, through a roundtable event on February 22, 2023.
Event participants included:
Moderator – Adele Halliday (United Church of Canada, Anti-Racism and Equity Lead)
Panelist – Racheal Juan (South Sudan Council of Churches)
Panelist – Ruva Gwekwerere (Black Lives Matter; former Citizens for Public Justice intern)
Panelist – Ed Williams (Fort William First Nation)
Panelist – Patrick Kabeya (Award-winning documentary film producer)
Panelist – Daveisha Francis (Spoken word artist)
As part of the event, a showcase of artwork was presented and youth were encouraged to continue sending in written, audio and visual works for display later in March of 2023.
