Delta Sigma Theta Soror Tiffini Gatlin’s Latched and Hooked Beauty Makes History on QVC

Another win for the sorority sisters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.!

Tiffini Gatlin, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., recently made history on February 4, 2023, by becoming the first Black-owned faux hair designer to launch a product on QVC, the television shopping network that airs to 380 million households in the United States and 7 countries. The launch marks a significant milestone for Gatlin and her company, Latched and Hooked Beauty, which sold out of one of its products within just 24 hours.

Gatlin’s success on QVC is a testament to her unwavering commitment to the beauty industry, which began with her first company, Curlkalon Hair Collection, in 2015. After her daughter suffered an adverse reaction to synthetic hair extensions, Gatlin recognized a need for non-toxic hair extension products that were both safe and convenient for Black women. She worked with a manufacturer in China to create a product that could help Black women style their hair in 60 seconds or less without the use of harsh chemicals. Cosmopolitan even recently named it the “the best braiding hair.”

Gatlin is a 2002 graduate of Clark Atlanta University and a Spring 2008 initiate of the Decatur Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Gatlin’s groundbreaking achievement is a reflection of her tenacity, innovation, and dedication to her customers. Her work has not only broken down barriers but also challenged the beauty industry’s exclusion of Black women and their unique hair and skin needs.

“It was past time for these women to finally see a product that was specifically designed with their texture in mind,” she told Watch The Yard in an email, highlighting the need for greater representation of Black-owned businesses in the industry.

Overall, Tiffini Gatlin’s success on QVC is a win for Black-owned businesses, a win for Black women, a win for Deltas and HBCU graduates everywhere and a win for the beauty industry. Her determination and trailblazing spirit serve as an inspiration for future generations, and her contribution to the industry will undoubtedly leave a lasting legacy.
