Writers of African Heritage Series – Multi-Ethnic Heritage Writers
Writers of African Heritage Series
Presented by The Minnesota Black Publishing Arts Collaborative
Writers Raised by Multi-Ethnic Parents
Saturday, December 4, 2021 • 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm
An Online Zoom Event
Writers explored how identity and life experiences impacted their writing and the communities they connect with. Global and micro issues were explored and discussed regarding the diversity of African heritage writers in the United States and in Minnesota in particular.
Writers of African heritage are often not simply of African descent, but were raised by parents other than or in addition to a Black or African parent. Often times, this family dimension provides a unique experience for many African people raised by multi-ethnic parents. Our community needs to discuss and understand these experiences.

The Minnesota Black Publishing Arts Collaborative is made up of the following Black-led agencies: Strive Publishing, Papyrus Publishing Inc., Planting People Growing Justice, In Black Ink, and Wise Inc.
These agencies have committed to challenge and change the narrative of Black people in the stories we lift up, the books we publish, archive, and share, as well as in the work we do with our constituents to address and challenge the “single” narratives and the huge disparities in the publishing arts field.
