1712 – New York Slave Revolt
Backstory: An uprising of enslaved Africans in New York City resulted in the deaths of nine white colonists and the execution of over 20 enslaved individuals. Afro-American peoples of the Americas is used to refer to people born in the Americas who have African ancestors. Most African Americans are the descendants of Africans forcibly brought to and held captive in the United States from 1555 to 1865.
