1676 – Bacon’s Rebellion
Backstory: A rebellion led by Nathaniel Bacon in Virginia included both black and white indentured servants, highlighting class tensions and leading to a shift towards a race-based system of slavery. Afro-American peoples of the Americas is used to refer to people born in the Americas who have African ancestors. Most African Americans are the descendants of Africans forcibly brought to and held captive in the United States from 1555 to 1865.
