1663 – Maryland Slave Law
Backstory: Maryland passed a law declaring that all Africans brought into the colony would be slaves for life, further entrenching the institution of slavery. Afro-American peoples of the Americas is used to refer to people born in the Americas who have African ancestors. Most African Americans are the descendants of Africans forcibly brought to and held captive in the United States from 1555 to 1865.
