Woman Arrested In Connection To Anti-Asian Attack At NYC Nail Salon
A plain clothes New York City Department officer stopped a racist attack in Chinatown earlier this week. CBS2 News reported Sharon Williams was arrested Tuesday night accused of harassing the Asian staff inside a nail salon on Madison Street in NYC.
Police claim Williams used slurs, threatened violence and saying, “You brought the corona to this country.”
Williams allegedly harassed another Asian person outside when a plain clothes officer, who is Asian, jumped in. Then allegedly started insulting the officer as well. The 50-year-old called the officer a “monkey,” authorities said. “You’re a Chinese motherf—er who brought COVID to this country!” she yelled as she was taken into custody, according to police.
In March, the NYPD increased patrols in Asian communities to help prevent anti-Asian attacks.
“The next person you target . . . may be a plainclothes New York City police officer, so think twice,” NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea warned at the time. “We will never tolerate hate or violence of any kind in our great city.”
