Video Shows A Elderly Man Preventing 24-Year-Old Black Man with Special Needs
A video has been circulating on social media shows one man preventing another man by the neck and accusing him of theft.
Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) say the individuals involved in the video have been identified. MPD is investigating this incident that occurred near 25th and Becher on Oct. 10. Police say a 62-year-old Milwaukee man detained a 24-year-old Milwaukee man that was allegedly stealing a bicycle.
The investigation will be taken over by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office for review of any potential charges, officials say.
Deangelo Wright says as a father, he felt compelled to intervene and protect the young man. He says he started recording to protect himself and others.
“Let go of his neck. He’s not going anywhere,” Wright says in the video.
The video recorded by Wright has gone viral and it shows one man grabbing another man by the neck.
“I’m recording. Let go of his neck. He’s not going anywhere,” Wright said in the video.
Wright says he was the one behind the camera and was driving by when he said two men were in the middle of the street last Monday.
“I hurried up and got out my car and intervened as quick as possible to kind of figure out what was going on,” Wright said.
Wright says something didn’t look right as the older man was holding the man’s bike back and stopping him from leaving.
“I got his hand off of his neck and was just trying to understand what was going on,” Wright said.
In the video, accusations of a bike was stolen from a yard. Ricky Hale say the man in the video is his nephew according to Fox 6.
“Why would you come out in the middle of the street and choke?” Hale said. “You don’t know if that’s a kid or not. You don’t even know his age.”
Hale says he hopes for justice for his nephew. “He’s just a person that has a disability that, he didn’t deserve that, and he never said he stole the bike,” Hale said.
Since the incident there was a protest held.
“It don’t matter if that boy was yellow, purple or orange,” Wright said. “I would have gotten out of that car to make sure he was OK.”
