TV News Anchors Suspended for Wearing Afro Wigs Live On Air

Two TV news personalities working at Little Rock, Arkansas news station wore afros on-air of  “back to the 70’s segment” according to The Washington Post. The on-air talent works at KATV came up with the idea to show the temperatures were dropping to the 70’s after a few days of hot temperatures.  The pair decided to wear afro wigs on-air.

Since the backlash the station owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group, apologized for the “poor judgement” that led to the segment. The station’s news director, Nick Genty was fired and indefinitely suspended Chris May and Barry Brandt.

“It was just bad judgment,” John Seabers, a Sinclair vice president and group manager, told the news outlet. “It was a spoof on the ’70s that just went wrong.”

According to KATV, “We apologize to all viewers who were rightfully offended by the segment and we promise to enact and enforce new measures to prevent future incidents from occurring,” Seabers wrote in a statement.”
