Trump Supporter’s Honeymoon At Trump Hotel Ended With Husband In ICE Detention

A Venezuelan man and his wife, who supports Donald Trump, are living a nightmare after taking a trip to the president’s Miami hotel for their honeymoon. Bryan José Rojas Galofre was hoping to give his wife a memorable gift when they made the trip from Wisconsin to Miami. But the trip turned into a disaster when the couple were stopped at a security checkpoint at Trump National Doral in Miami.

Why did ICE detain Bryan José Rojas Galofre?

Rojas arrived in the U.S. in 2021 but turned himself in to Border Patrol soon after coming to the country. The Venezuelan immigrant told officials at the time that he was fleeing his country, NBC News reported.

He was then briefly held in detention but later released while his asylum application was being reviewed. Rojas then found work at a brake disc factory in Wisconsin.

In 2024, Rojas married Socorro Zaragosa, a 22-year-old U.S. citizen who grew up in Wisconsin in a Trump-supporting family. The couple then began the process of adjusting Rojas’ immigration status.

When the pair traveled to Trump National Doral on Jan. 27, 2025, Secret Service agents stopped them at a security checkpoint and searched their car. Agents found an air pistol in the vehicle, which Zaragosa said she keeps for safety when driving alone. The agents also said they found a metal marijuana grinder.

Police arrested the couple and charged them with one count of possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to use.

The problems continued for the pair when agents noticed Rojas’ tattoos, which feature a Chinese dragon and dollar signs.

“They pulled me out of the car, they checked my tattoos, they started asking if I belonged to a gang, they took photos of me and put me under review to see if I was linked to terrorism,” Rojas told Noticias Telemundo, per NBC News. “At that time, the news surrounding the Tren de Aragua gang was making major headlines.”

Attorney Tahimi Rengifo said the Trump administration has been making generalizations about tattoos, linking many of them to gangs.

“We are talking about young men who got tattoos without even knowing what they meant, and now they are facing serious consequences under this administration,” Rengifo said, per NBC News.

Rojas, who was held at the Federal Detention Center in Miami for nearly three months, said he feared being deported to El Salvador because many Venezuelan detainees were being transferred to that country. However, an immigration judge granted bond to Rojas on April 18, 2025. He was officially released on May 6, 2025.

Still, Rojas faced several other problems after being released. In addition to learning that his work visa had expired, Rojas also realized his 401(k) fund had to be used to pay legal fees.

While he is happy to be reunited with his wife and their first child, Rojas faces a tall task in getting his livelihood back on track. The Venezuelan man is scheduled to appear for his next immigration hearing in 2028.

What are Bryan José Rojas and his wife saying about the Trump administration?

Zaragosa still hesitates to renounce her support for Donald Trump despite her husband’s detention.

“I’m his fan. I believe Trump is a good president,” she said.

However, she also said she is disappointed by the president’s immigration policies.

“What he is doing to migrants isn’t fair,” Zaragosa said, per NBC News. “What happened to my family wasn’t fair.”

Rojas regrets the trip to the Trump hotel.

“In the end, it was a bad decision,” he said.
