Did you know that the first American woman to win three gold medals in track and field is a Delta? This is the truth! Wilma Rudolph pledged the Alpha Chi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Sorority Inc.
Wilma Rudolph was an African American sprinter who became a global sports icon after winning gold in the Olympic Games. The 1960 Summer Olympics was widely televised. This led to Rudolph becoming extremely popular along with other athletes like Muhammad Ali, and Oscar Robinson.
She became a role model for African American women and helped shine a light on track and field. She is also regarded as a Civil Rights pioneer who paved the way for African Americans and Women.
