TLC Says Don’t Get It Confused, They ‘Still Hold The Crown’ For The Best Girl Group

TLC, the iconic American girl group from the 1990s, reflected on their journey during a recent interview and reminded the world that they still hold the crown as one of the greatest bands of all time.

Speaking to Shondaland, Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas gloated about the millions of albums they sold during their career.  They also reflected on the challenge of moving forward after the death of their beloved member, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.

“I think there’s always confusion on how many albums we sold or if we’re still the best-selling girl group of all time, and we are,” T-Boz told Shondaland. “You hear another girl group say it on TV, and it’s like, no, sweetie, we hold the crown still. It’s 85-million-plus sold. It’s a blessing to be able to even say we sold that many albums and to still be holding the torch, but, to be clear, the torch is ours, girls. We still hold it.”

The group revealed that they will soon embark on a tour to commemorate the 30-year anniversary of their hit album CrazySexyCool

“It’s going to be a walk down memory lane,” T-Boz said about the upcoming tour. “A way to get to know us if you don’t know us. If you knew us, you’ll remember why you loved us. You know what to expect if you’ve been with us since the beginning. We want this concert to feel like we’re all at a barbecue in the park or at a backyard boogie.”

Although the artists have had their differences through the years, they say they remain as close as ever. They have also managed to move forward after the death of Left Eye, who died in a car accident in 2002, according to the New York Post.

“After Lisa passed, people swore the group was over, and to be where we are — touring and selling out shows — to have a second go after such a tragic situation, God has been driving this vehicle the whole time for us,” T-Boz said.

Chilli said there have been times when the group members got on each other’s nerves and wanted to kick people out. Still, they remained together.

“We have always been a group. We never broke up. Ever,” Chilli said. “We’ve always been together.”

The group rose to fame with songs such as “Creep,” “Waterfalls” and “No Scrubs.” They sold more than 85 million records worldwide while producing ten Top 10 singles and four multi-platinum albums.

According to The Miami Times, T-Boz and Chilli will perform selections from the CrazySexyCool album when they kick off their tour in Miami in September. The Miami stop will be a part of an 18-city tour.

“We are in this thang until the wheels fall off,” Chilli said.
