‘The Runarounds’ Season 1 Ending, Explained: Does The Band Get A Deal?

The Season 1 finale of The Runarounds on Prime Video starts with The Runarounds themselves getting some rough treatment.

The episode starts out with the band getting arrested for performing on a rooftop, but the police aren’t the only ones going after the group. Theo (Cranston Johnson) gives Bez (Zendé Murdock) a verbal lashing. Charlie also gets taken to task by his folks, Finn (Hayes MacArthur) and Hannah (Brooklyn Decker), leading Finn to want to give Charlie a job so he can learn responsibility.

For right now, Charlie has to give up playing in the band because his family’s finances are what’s most important–they can no longer afford the mortgage and must leave. But Charlie finds out his parents have been keeping a secret. In some old school yearbooks, he sees Hannah and Catesby together. He also finds his birth certificate, which lists his father as “unknown.”

Charlie forgot to drive Sophia to Chapel Hill

Now with his life feeling like a lie, Charlie forgets he was supposed to drive his Sophia (Lilah Pate) to Chapel Hill and rushes out of the house. He confronts Catesby, but even though the conversation started out as an argument, the two eventually make nice. Charlie then remembers his promise to Sophia.

Is Catesby the real father of Charlie?

Sophia’s not responding to him, so instead, he hangs out with the band and tells them the truth about Catesby being his father.

While all of this is going on, Wyatt (Jesse Golliher) has come home to an empty house. His mom, Wendy (Dani Deetté), has left, but didn’t leave anything behind that would tell Wyatt where she was or when she’d be back.

The one bandmate who got a little bit of a leg-up from the rooftop stunt was Neil, who gets an offer at reconciliation from Phoebe (Mackenzie Porter). She saw Neil arrested on television and told him that his band should play at the Kill Devil Ballroom. She thinks it could be a big break for them.

But the good feelings don’t last for long once Neil’s father finds out he has Painter’s Lung. But in order to keep Neil’s spirits up, he doesn’t tell him the bad news.

The band does play the gig, including Charlie dedicating a song to Sophia. But after the show, Sophia tells him she can’t be with someone who won’t show up for her–figuratively and literally. Charlie explains what happened earlier that day regarding his parentage, which makes her understand. They both tell each other they love each other.

However, Charlie making nice with Sophia caused him to bail on the band during the gig–a gig that could have gotten them signed. Turns out that because of Charlie’s decision, the band won’t get signed after all, even though the scout can see they have talent.

Things get even worse when the band gets in an accident that destroys all of their gear and nearly hits another car in the process.

The Runarounds’ offer

They take out all of their frustration on Charlie for being selfish. But the record label rep has been convinced to give them another shot. The band gets a deal after all, and it’s worth $500,000. They are finally on their way towards becoming the next big rock stars.

The Runarounds is streaming on Prime Video.
