The Great Depression and the New Deal Policy
The Great Depression (1929-1939) was a dark period in American economic history, when the economy collapsed following the 1929 stock market crash. Millions lost their jobs, thousands of businesses went bankrupt, and poverty spread across the nation. In response to this crisis, President Franklin D. Roosevelt introduced the “New Deal” – a series of economic and social policies designed to rescue the economy and restore public confidence. The New Deal included the creation of millions of jobs through infrastructure projects, banking reforms, and measures to protect workers’ rights. While the long-term effectiveness of the program remains debated, the New Deal helped alleviate the economic downturn and laid the foundation for modern social welfare policies.
