Even a joke can turn out to be a smash hit when T-Pain is on the vocals.

Appearing on Mike Tyson’s Hotboxin’ podcast, he went into details about the origin of “I’m ‘N Luv (Wit a Stripper)” featuring Mike Jones and how made the track was made out of humor, according to Complex.

“My homeboy was tryna save strippers in the club,” he said. “The song was a joke. I was literally making fun of him.”

“We was just in the studio f**king around and Big Boi saying it was dope and I said yep,” he added. 

Although T-Pain recently reminded his fans about the origins of “I’m ‘N Luv (Wit a Stripper),” he first revealed the source material for one of his most well-known hits in an interview with USA Today.

“We got one girl to dance on him and he was just automatically trying to take her out of the club, pay for her tuition and do everything. The next couple days in the studio, everybody was still laughing about it,” he said.

“I started playing with GarageBand on my Mac and singing, ‘I’m in love with a stripper,’ and everybody was like, ‘Yo, lay that down and we’ll give it to (him) as a joke,” he added.

T-Pain was astounded when representatives from his label came to the studio and loved the track that was meant to be a joke for his friends out of all the other recordings he had available in the session. To no avail, he tried to convince them that the song was not meant to be released.

“This is the furthest thing from a joke. We’re putting this out next week,” the rapper recalled label representatives telling him. “The fact that it became a hit threw me off. I was literally trying to make a bad song but it didn’t work.”

Released in 2006 when he was dropping hit after hit, “I’m ‘N Luv (Wit a Stripper)” peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 3 on the U.S. Rhythmic charts, becoming his third most successful single to date.

In May, T-Pain launched Nappy Boy Radio, a partnership with his new podcast venture where he’ll discuss his hit songs and engage in conversations with celebrities that he’s worked with and admired.

“Too many conversations and interactions I was having with various people kept ending in the same way, with me saying, ‘Damn, we should have recorded that,’ so we decided to do just that and launch the Nappy Boy Radio podcast,” he told Deadline. “Partnering with PodcastOne, a company that is talent first’, was a no-brainer for us.”

While “I’m ‘N Luv (Wit a Stripper)” may have been intended as a joke, years later, T-Pain is still laughing all the way to the bank.
