SZA Says She Turned Down Magazine Cover Shoot After Being Told She Couldn’t Have A Black Photographer
Last summer, SZA opened up about her creative process in regards to shooting magazine covers in an interview with Wonderland.
While talking about her spread with the publication, SZA expressed that it was important for her to be in charge of her own image.
“The only reason is because I get creative control over this whole spread and I get to take my own pictures for once in my life. I get to dress how I wanna dress and light myself how I wanna light myself. When you don’t get to decide how people see you, or what is even beauty to you, or anyone else… Through the lens of someone else it can just get real dangerous,” she said.
With apparent magazine cover shoots, new music videos and hot collaborations in tow, 2021 is shaping up to be a remarkable year for the singer.
To the dismay of fans, SZA’s “Good Days” single recently left the Billboard Hot 100, Complex reports. The popular track is widely considered her most successful solo hit, so the singer’s fans were shocked when she connected her label to the developments.
“I really hate my label. So much,” she wrote in response to a post about the Billboard update.
Earlier this week, the 30-year-old clarified her comments about “Good Day,” clearing the air about any hostility toward TDE president Terrence “Punch” Henderson, according to Complex.
“Punch is my manager (not a machine or a label) lol also been like my stage dad the last 10 yrs,” she wrote. “Be nice to him pls. He really fights for me. Not angry w him. Or anybody really. Jus my own choices.”
