Shanquella Robinson’s Family Still Fighting for Justice 3 Years After Her Death, Calling On FBI To Release More Info

Three years have passed since Charlotte native Shanquella Robinson died while on vacation in Mexico, and her family and their attorneys continue to demand justice for her mysterious death.

Blavity reported that Robinson died in October 2022 while on vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, with six of her “friends” who alleged the 25-year-old died of alcohol poisoning.

However, a viral video released after her death showed Robinson completely naked and assaulted repeatedly in the head and neck by one of her travel mates while another recorded the footage. No one helped her after the incident, and an autopsy determined that Robinson died from a severe neck and spinal cord injury.

After initially reviewing the case, the FBI determined that no arrests would be made due to limited evidence. Robinson’s death was deemed inconclusive, and the case was closed, per Blavity. However, her family has not stopped demanding answers about what happened to her.

The family had filed two lawsuits against the ‘Cabo 6’ and the FBI in Robinson’s death

The Robinson family had filed two lawsuits to seek justice for the young woman’s death. The first, filed by her mother Sallamondra, targeted the FBI and the U.S. State Department in a $100 million complaint over their alleged failures in investigating Robinson’s death. Separately, the family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against “the Cabo 6,” the six people who traveled with Shanquella to Mexico, including the attacker and those who allegedly did nothing to stop it.

Attorney Sue-Ann Robinson (no family relation) noted that the legal process has been slow but that they will continue fighting for justice and accountability in Robinson’s death.

“We’ve been waiting since January for court rulings on the initial motions,” she told WCNC. “The litigation is ongoing. Some defendants only recently retained counsel. But we’re not going to stop until we see justice for Shanquella.”

‘Shanquella’s life mattered’

On Wednesday, Robinson joined civil rights attorney Ben Crump in making the following statement urging federal authorities to take action.

“Three years have passed since Shanquella’s life was taken, yet her family still waits for justice. The fact that no criminal charges have been brought in the United States is not only heartbreaking but unacceptable. Shanquella’s loved ones have endured three years of silence, delays, and denials, and still they stand, demanding the accountability their daughter deserves,” they said in a statement, obtained by Queen City News.

They continued, “We continue to call on the United States to do what is right, for the FBI to release information on this case so that Shanquella’s family might have some sense of closure. Shanquella’s life mattered, and her legacy will continue to drive the fight for truth, transparency, and justice.”
