RuPaul has been breaking barriers throughout his career, and now the LGBTQ icon will release a new memoir detailing the early stages of his life.

The drag superstar and RuPaul’s Drag Race host announced Wednesday he’s written a self-portrait titled The House of Hidden Meanings, which allows readers to learn more about the 62-year-old’s life before becoming one of the most influential people in the entertainment industry, according to The Hollywood Reporter

“RuPaul strips away all artifice and recounts the story of his life with breathtaking clarity and tenderness, bringing his signature wisdom and wit to his own biography,” an official synopsis of the book obtained by Entertainment Weekly states. It continues, “From his early years growing up as a queer Black kid in San Diego navigating complex relationships with his absent father and temperamental mother, to forging an identity in the punk and drag scenes of Atlanta and New York, to finding enduring love with his husband Georges LeBar and self-acceptance in sobriety, RuPaul excavates his life-story, uncovering new truths and insights in his personal history.”

According to EW, the book will follow the first 40 years of RuPaul’s life before making his mark with Drag Race. He posted an emotional video to his Instagram account, explaining his decision to be transparent about his life.

After two and a half years, it’s finally here. My memoir,” the San Diego native said in the video. “I’m so excited and so anxious at the same time, because I reveal so much of myself. You know, this world today, it feels so hostile and it’s such a scary place to be vulnerable in, but I did it. So, get ready.”

In the post’s caption, RuPaul reflected on the process of writing the book and how he learned to accept “vulnerability as a strength.”

“Writing this book left me gooped, gagged and stripped raw. I’ve learned that vulnerability is strength, but so far, all I feel is nervous as hell, yet super excited to share it with y’all. When all is said and done, it’s just me, Ru,” he wrote.

The House of Hidden Meanings is scheduled to be released on March 5, 2024.
