Roland: Black TV Networks Harm Our Youth By Only Airing Entertainment, Reality, Award & Crime Shows
Over the weekend Roland Martin tweeted: “It is still stunning to me that if you combine ALL of the Black cable networks, there is not a single damn hour during the week – 1,176 hours – dedicated to news of the day regarding Black folks. Six networks and not ONE DAMN HOUR. This is called a news desert. And it’s shameful.”
In a second post in the thread, Roland said: “If you want to keep a group of people uninformed, just keep them laughing. The fixation on awards shows, comedies, movies, crime and reality shows keeps Black folks clueless about vital issues. This is why I launched #RolandMartinUnfiltered. We can’t win living in darkness.”

During Monday’s edition of #RolandMartinUnfiltered, Roland continued to address the “news desert” in the African American community.
Martin told the owners of the eight Black TV networks, “Your are doing a disservice to the next generation of Black children because what we are essentially doing is cultivating a group of people who only watch award shows, comedies, dramas and crime shows.”
