Protesters gather after family members identify teen girl as person fatally shot by Columbus Police
A family member told 10TV that the person fatally shot by a police officer in Columbus, Ohio Tuesday was 16-year-old Ma’Khia Bryant. Police were called to the around 4:30 p.m. for a disturbance according to the news station. The family says Bryant called the police for help because girls were fighting outside her home.
Bryant was taken to the hospital in critical condition where she was later pronounced dead. Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther said “a young woman tragically lost her life” and there is body camera footage of the incident. Ginther asked for people to “remain calm” and allow investigators to take place.

Member of Mother’s of Murdered Columbus Children and others have gathered in the area, one person with a sign reading “enough is enough” and another with “Black kids matter.” A crowd of demonstrators gathered outside of the Columbus Police Department downtown headquarters, changing, “say her name, Ma’Khia Bryant!”
The girl’s mother told @10TV her daughter’s name was Ma’Khia Bryant. Her aunt told us she was 15, but her mom says she was 16. She told @LaceyCrisp Ma’Khia was an honor roll student and a sweet child. Police shot and killed her on Legion Lane at 4:30 p.m. today. pic.twitter.com/qL4zh6uFyG
