IG Page Linked To Royal Family Posts Pics Of Prince Charles With Black People Amid Racism Allegations

The fallout from the spellbinding Oprah Winfrey
interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry continued on Tuesday after the British Crown released a statement denying racism.

An Instagram account published photos of Prince Charles shaking hands with Black people. The photos were seen as a blatant attempt to tacitly address allegations from Markle and her husband that unnamed members of his family held multiple meetings to discuss the skin color of the couple’s son.

“There were concerns and conversations about how dark [Archie’s] skin might be,” Markle told Winfrey in the CBS interview that drew millions of viewers.

“That conversation, I am never going to share. At the time, it was awkward, I was a bit shocked. What will the kids look like? That was at the beginning when she wasn’t going to get security when my family suggested that she might continue acting,” Prince Harry added when Winfrey asked him about the skin color allegations.

That accusation was one of many that implicated the royal family and the British press in a variety of racist incidents. After the couple’s son, Archie, was born, it was revealed that he would not receive a royal title and the royal family also refused to provide him with a security detail like other children in the family.

Markle also spoke to Winfrey about how the royal institution coordinated with the press to either promote false stories about her or failed to refute untrue stories.

After more than 24 hours of backlash coming from across the globe and after the British public watched the interview, the palace released a statement pledging to deal with the allegations of racism internally.

“The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately,” the statement read, noting it came from Buckingham Palace on behalf of Queen Elizabeth.

In another act that drew scrutiny and scorn from the public, an Instagram account connected to the palace began releasing photos of Prince Charles shaking hands with Black people at a vaccine drive at a Black church.

Analysts on both sides of the pond have said the allegations made by Markle and Prince Harry are being taken seriously because of how much interest there has been in the interview globally.

The statements are particularly damaging because the prince came out after the interview and told Winfrey to tell the public that it was neither the queen nor her husband who made the comments about Archie’s skin tone, indicating it is most likely his father or his brother, Prince William, according to Katie Nicholl, an expert on the monarchy who spoke with ET

“It’s opened up a Pandora’s Box and there is something of a witch hunt to find out which royal it is. The suggestion is that if it’s Charles if it’s William…then that has real repercussions for the monarchy. Charles is going to be the next king. After that, William. To be honest, I don’t think it really matters which member of the royal family said it. It’s the fact that a member of the royal family expressed those views. Who is almost irrelevant, the concerning thing is that someone felt that way,” Nicholl said.

“These claims have come on Commonwealth Day, a day that is incredibly important to the queen. She’s very proud that she presides over so many multi-racial realms and countries. And there is a feeling of shock over here at these allegations, a feeling of disbelief and certainly among some commentators and some parts of the public who are clearly very divided on social media, a huge amount of offense that the queen, the institution, the royal family is being accused of racism,” Nicholl added.
