When I first decided that I was going to work from home I definitely underestimated what would be in store for me. I thought it would be so much easier working from home. Being out of an office meant things would be quiet, I could think out loud, and be able to have a very flexible schedule. Boy, was I wrong.

Life as a mompreneur is crazy and unpredictable. No two days are the same. Unexpected tasks come up almost every single day. Over the years I learned that having a schedule is key. Sticking with a structured morning routine can help to keep things a little less crazy.

Prioritize my tasks the night before.

One of the keys to having a successful day is knowing what you need to accomplish. Having a to-do list that is organized by priority is a great way to keep myself on schedule. I keep my to-do list small with under 10 tasks that I know I can get done during the day.

Communicate with family.

I always keep my family involved with what I have going on by communicating with them. You can keep a shared Google calendar or an old-school paper calendar but making sure your family is on the same page as you is super important especially if you have a family routine that you stick to as well. I can’t tell you how many times someone has asked me to drop what I’m doing to help them complete a task. It usually happens when I’m extremely busy and throws the entire day off. Communicating with your family is essential to a successful day.

Indulge myself.

I don’t know about you but sometime around the middle of the day, my momentum starts to decline. After busy mornings, I start to lose energy and motivation. A cup of coffee and a snack is a huge pick me up during the day.

Plan out my day.

I plan out my day. Things can come up in the morning that you weren’t expecting so you want to make sure that you alter your priorities from the night before. I set realistic goals for myself so that I’m not setting myself up for failure. I love to use a planner to plan out my days.
