Houston Rockets’ Kevin Porter Jr. Charged With Assault And Strangulation Of Girlfriend, WNBA’s Kysre Gondrezick

Porter was taken into custody following the incident and was charged with assault and strangulation. He pleaded not guilty and was released on a $75,000 cash bail on Tuesday. A judge imposed a temporary order of protection. The 23-year-old NBA player is due back in court on Oct. 16.
Both the Houston Rockets and the NBA released statements following the incident.
“We are in the process of gathering information surrounding the matter involving Kevin Porter Jr,” the Rockets said in a statement, according to Aljazeera. “We have no further comment at this time.”
“The league office is in contact with the Houston Rockets and in the process of gathering more information,” NBA spokesman Mike Bass said.
Porter was arrested in Nov. 2020 on a weapons charge but wasn’t indicted, according to ABC News. The Cleveland Cavaliers made him inactive for half the season following the incident at the time. He was eventually traded to the Houston Rockets in January 2021.
