Georgia daycare faces backlash after photo appears to show white children eating while Black children wait
A Georgia daycare has been getting backlash after a screenshot of livestream classroom footage from the Roswell Kids R’ Kids location showed white children eating at tables as Black children were seen waiting. The accusations of racism at the daycare have gone viral after a livestream video seems to show white children being fed lunch first according to CBS 46.
“They were skipping all of the black kids it seemed like,” Adryan McCauley told the news station. The family says they noticed it happen while picking up their 2-year-old through a video livestream at Kids R’ Kids Roswell.
“All the white kids got their lunch, and all the black kids had to wait,” McCauley who’s son attends the daycare said. “From the videos and pictures that we saw today, we are just completely disturbed.”
The family took a screenshot, and went to the daycare to confront the staff about the incident.
“Mom went and picked him up immediately, and the director said ‘I’m not really sure because I’m not in the classroom, maybe it’s a dietary thing,’” McCauley said. However, the family doesn’t buy the explanation and shared the story online, igniting a social media firestorm.
“I wish that everybody would be able to see the video in entirety first and not just a snapshot,” David Vinson, President, CEO of Kids R’ Kids said. Vinson says he’s viewed the entire video and the company has issued the family an apology. Adding that they will use the incident as a training tool.
“We wanted to make sure our families know that this is not what we are about,” Vinson told CBS 46. The company has decided end ties with the Roswell branch.
“Perception is unfortunately reality, and with the cancel culture, unfortunately, it’s the perception,” Vinson said. The daycare spoke with CBS46 reporter Jamie Kennedy and gave him the following statement:
“We know the act was random, and the photo doesn’t show the entire room; we believe if the parents viewed the videos they would understand. I wish they could see the compassion we have.”
