Florida A&M earn FCS at-large bid, return to playoff after 20 year absence
Florida A&M (FAMU) have earned an at-large bid to the FCS Playoffs for the first time since the 2001 season as the field of 24 was unveiled on Sunday according to WCTV. FAMU (9-2, 7-1 SWAC) defeated Bethune-Cookman 46-21 in their last matchup on Nov. 20. The Rattlers only lost in their conference came to eventual league champion Jackson State in week one of the season.
FAMU won the first ever FCS Championship in 1978 (then I-AA) earns its eighth bid all time to the tournament and is 5-5 all-time in the playoff.
The Rattlers are set to play Southeastern Louisiana in Hammond, LA next Saturday at 7 PM ET. The winner will head to Harrisonburg, VA to play 3rd seeded James Madison Dukes.
The team gathered at the FAMU School of Law in Orlando for a watch party Sunday to learn if they earned a bid to the playoffs. Players erupted in cheers upon hearing the news of their at-large bid.
“This is indescribable. This is such a humbling experience,” FAMU head coach Willie Simmons told Tallahassee Democrat . “I am proud of these young men in what they have accomplished.
“Now that were in, we have to go to work to make sure we ‘Leave no Doubt.’”
