Family Files Lawsuit Against Michigan School District After Alleging Their Black Adopted Daughter Has Went Through Months Of Racial Harassment
A Michigan family is filing a lawsuit against Croswell-Lexington School District after saying their adopted Black daughter had suffered months of racial harassment at school. April Malick, the mother of the 14-year-old says, “She begged me, begged me to turn white. It was heartbreaking.” according to WDIV.
Rob Malick, the teen’s father, said, “In the beginning, they were like, ‘yeah, let’s get this done; we’re gonna investigate.”
The parents claim nothin significant was done to change what was going on. The child has since been taken out of the school, after they’ve filed over 20 complaints. The lawsuits says their daughter went through months of racial harassment which included being called the n-word and having other students tell her to go “back to the plantation.”
Attorney Deborah Gordon filed the lawsuit for the family told WDIV, “You have adults standing by and not taking action.”
The school district released a statement stating, “We have not had an opportunity to review the Complaint, nor have we yet been served.”
“We do not tolerate harassment of any sort, including racial harassment. When brought to our attention, we thoroughly investigate all allegations of harassment, including but not limited to racial harassment. If any alleged harassment is found to have occurred, it is immediately and appropriately addressed and stopped, with consequences to the perpetrators as warranted” the statement added.
