DaBaby’s comments have resulted in consequences not just from the public, but from his business endeavors as well.
The North Carolina rapper collaborated with boohooMAN for a collection that was released on June 30, but the company has since dropped DaBaby from their lineup, as Blavity previously reported.
“boohooMAN condemn the use of homophobic language and confirm we will no longer be working with DaBaby,” the statement read. “Diversity and inclusion are part of the boohoo Groups DNA and we pride ourselves on representing the diverse customers we serve across the globe. We stand by and support the LGBTQ+ community, and do not tolerate any hate speech or discrimination in any form.”
Singer Dua Lipa, who worked with the rapper on the remix to her hit song “Levitating,” denounced his comments, saying she was “horrified” at his remarks.
“I’m surprised and horrified at DaBaby’s comments,” she wrote in an Instagram story on Tuesday. “I really don’t recognise this as the person I worked with. I know my fans know where my heart lies and that I stand 100% with the LGBTQ community. We need to come together to fight the stigma and ignorance around HIV/AIDS.”
Not all musicians opposed DaBaby’s comments, however. Rapper T.I. came to DaBaby’s defense, as Blavity previously reported, and advocated for the right to tell his “truth.”
“If you gon’ have the Lil Nas X video and him living his truth, you gon’ damn sure have people like DaBaby who gon’ speak their truth and it ain’t nothing wrong with none of it. It ain’t got to be no hate, it’s all honesty,” T.I. said during an Instagram Live.
