Detroit Man Quit His Job In 2020, Now He Has A Building For His Car Detailing Business After Going Viral On TikTok
A Detroit man, left his job and began detailing cars in his driveway full-time, purchased a building for his business after going viral on TikTok according to Detroit Free Press. Daviant “Dae” Palmer quit his job in April of 2020. At the time Palmer was working as a cable installer and by August of that year, started detailing cars full-time in his driveway.
Using her marketing skills, Palmer’s mother Typhany Jones helped her son record his work posting videos on TikTok.
The pair would post videos of chicken nuggets in car nooks and sauce on seats. One video even showed Palmer cutting a slinky out of the vehicle’s ceiling. Palmer began his detailing journey by cleaning his friends’ cars while his mom posted the videos. The videos would start gain traction and business began to pick up. Jones posted a video of the before-and-after cleaning process, turning Cadillac into a Porsche. Palmer was on his honeymoon at the time and when he got up the next day, and saw the video had gotten over 2 million views.
“He’s calling me from his honeymoon like, ‘Mom, everybody is calling me. My phone won’t stop ringing. That’s what started business coming in really, really good,” Jones recalled.
Then in no time his driveway was filled with cars and his revenue increased by almost 70 percent. Jones then quit her marketing job and put all her time into building Dae’s Detail. In October 2021, the pair decided to move the business to an actually building. Jones is now the marketing manager over the business, Palmer’s uncle Stevon Ferrell is his business partner and they share the space with Palmer’s father, Kenya Jones who owns Rubin’s Plumbing according to Because Of Them We Can. Palmer said that the success of Dae’s Detail is a dream come true.
“It’s always been a dream to do something like that and it feels awesome to have people working with me – people that I know and people that I can trust,” Palmer said.
