(BPRW) On 250th Anniversary of the U.S, the NAACP Announces $20 Million GOVT Campaign in Lead Up To The Midterms

(Black PR Wire) WASHINGTON – The NAACP — America’s largest civil and most influential rights organization — is marking the United States’ 250th Anniversary by announcing plans to spend $20 million on a Get Out The Vote campaign in the lead up to November’s midterm elections. This is an unprecedented investment by the NAACP for a midterm election, underscoring the urgency of the moment in the wake of the Supreme Court’s rulings that gutted the Voting Rights Act and unleashed racial gerrymandering across the South.

The NAACP’s campaign, conducted in partnership with GSSA, will recruit 20,000 volunteers and mobilize 6.5 million Black voters across 14 states and 33 congressional districts.

“At a time when voting rights, civil liberties, immigrant communities, and historically marginalized communities continue to face attacks, this anniversary marks an opportunity to come together and fight for a future that serves all people — a future rooted in justice, democracy, dignity, and our shared humanity,” said Dominik Whitehead, NAACP’s Chief of Field, Membership Growth and Unit Sustainability. “Donald Trump’s authoritarian regime has attempted to terminate the 14th Amendment, racially gerrymander states across the South, and federalize elections against the framework set by the Constitution. November’s midterm election is our chance to not only put a stop to Trump’s madness, but to advance policies that serve the people, not just the billionaire class.”

A year ago, 14 months before the 2026 midterm elections, the NAACP launched a series of town halls in an effort to mobilize Black voters around the country. States included Texas, California, North Carolina, New Jersey, Ohio, Georgia, Arizona, Wisconsin, New York, Maryland, and more.

Since then, the NAACP has also sued the Trump administration over multiple illegal election-related Executive Orders, as well as numerous states that engaged in Trump’s calls to racially gerrymander electoral maps, including Tennessee, Missouri, and Texas.

Just this week, the NAACP landed a major victory when a federal judge ruled in favor of the NAACP, blocking the USPS from implementing Trump’s unconstitutional mail-in Executive Order.

In addition, after Trump’s DOJ sued numerous states for not turning over sensitive voter information, the NAACP secured a dismissal of the case in California and intervened in multiple other states, including Georgia, Utah, and Michigan, and stepped in after Trump’s FBI raided the Fulton County elections office in Georgia.

“By turning out the vote, we can all help put an end to Donald Trump’s assaults on our communities and the rights we’ve secured through immense struggle, and begin to build a future that actually serves our needs — from having accessible healthcare, affordable housing, and getting a good education,” said Derrick Johnson, President & CEO of the NAACP. “We’re launching this campaign on our nation’s 250th anniversary — and investing more than we’ve ever invested in a midterm cycle — because this is a pivotal moment for our democracy. The future of this country needs to finally serve the people, and not the wealthy at the top who couldn’t care less about those who actually built this nation with blood, sweat, and tears.”

NAACP will continue to advocate for a better America over the next 250 years, where every person earns a living wage, where healthcare is a right, where our communities breathe clean air, and where every child receives a quality education. The NAACP is a proud member of the Next250 coalition, a national movement leveraging the U.S.’s anniversary to reimagine what our nation can become. NAACP’s Dominik Whitehead joined the Next250 coalition for a rally in Washington, D.C., on June 27.

As the Association fights back against attempts to erode Black political power – especially in Southern states – we are building a mobilization engine to turn out votes in massive numbers ahead of the November midterm elections. To learn more, visit naacp.org
