(Black PR Wire) Cathy Hughes is an American entrepreneur, radio and television personality and business executive. Hughes founded the media company Radio One (now known as Urban One), and when the company went public in 1999, she became the first African-American woman to head a publicly traded corporation. Ms. Hughes started her career in media in the mid 60’s at an African American Newspaper called the Omaha Star. Once Cathy got her foot in the door, she started to soar in her profession. One of Cathy Hughes most notable success is Radio One. Cathy founded Radio One with then husband Dewey Hughes. Cathy Hughes posses many awards including the National Action Network’s “Keepers of the Dream” award, which is an award that spotlights role models who contribute to and honor Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy. Cathy Hughes is mother to Alfred Liggins III and continues to support and uplift others in the media.
