(BPRW) Black Voters Matter Launches “We Got Us” Campaign Highlighting the Power of Grassroots Organizing to Resource and Protect Black Communities

National voting rights organization celebrates 10 years working to increase Black political power

(Black PR Wire) GEORGIA — Recently, Black Voters Matter (BVM) marks a decade of unwavering commitment to building Black political power with the launch of its “We Got Us” campaign and bus tour to protect and resource Black communities during the most significant rollback of federal protections since the 1960s. “We Got Us” centers the resilience and self-determination of Black communities to be creative and committed to collective care, especially as the stakes for voting rights, healthcare access, resources, and public safety have never been higher.  

Over the past 14 months, Trump and his GOP allies in Congress have passed legislation that drastically cut Medicaid and SNAP benefits for millions, reduced the federal workforce, cut DEI programs, deployed ICE agents to cities across the country, and revoked birthright citizenship. Now, they’re trying to pass the most restrictive voter ID laws to date.  It isn’t by accident that Black communities bear the brunt of these policies — it’s by design. The campaign is built upon the premise that when institutions fail and harmful policies threaten Black communities, we show up for each other. Through mutual aid, grassroots organizing, and a commitment to love and power as tools for survival, weensure that our communities needs are met because WE GOT US! 

As BVM celebrates its 10-year anniversary, the “We Got Us” campaign will bolster the organization’s key initiatives that fight against decades of harmful voting rights, criminal justice, health care, and climate change policies, including: 

• Warrant Clinics: BVM’s warrant clinics in strategic partnership with Growing Real Alternatives Everywhere (GRAE) have helped clear 8,726k outstanding warrants in states like Georgia, Alabama, Michigan, and Texas. By removing legal barriers to voting, housing, and employment, these clinics tackle the criminal legal system’s targeting and disenfranchisement of Black communities at the root. 

• Sick & Tired: This campaign mobilizes voters to demand health equity, fight for Medicaid expansion, and hold local officials accountable for healthcare access. With healthcare cuts threatening millions, the Sick & Tired campaign uplifts the basic right to health and wellness for Black families everywhere. 

• The Block Is Hot:  This campaign tackles environmental racism head-on in Black and rural communities in the South and mid-west. We’re organizing around toxic pollution, unsafe water, and unchecked development. By amplifying local demands for clean air and safe neighborhoods, BVM fights for environmental justice where it’s needed most. 

• Young Voter Engagement: Through Take the Field and The Black Youth Renaissance, BVM is utilizing its documentary, Love, Joy, and Power: Tools for Liberation to train the next generation of grassroots leaders and organizers, building local power that lasts beyond a single election. The campaign invests in political education, leadership development, and the unstoppable energy of Black youth.

It’s what we do for each other; every single day and what Black Voters Matter has been advocating for the past decade.

Later this month, BVM will hit the road on the Blackest Bus in America, engaging directly with communities to address urgent issues and highlight the connection between civic participation and the resources Black communities need.
