Colorado company pairs AI-driven qualification with credit-union and CDFI capital to reach homeowners the traditional market leaves behind — in the historically redlined communities where the home-equity wealth ladder was cut off. More than half of its loans fall within CDFI Fund Target Markets.

(Black PR Wire) ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — TGUC Financial, Inc., a technology-driven home improvement financing platform, today announced it now manages a $150 million home-improvement loan portfolio — built on a funding model designed to broaden who gets approved, not just the prime tier.

TGUC was built to fix a broken market: home improvement financing failed homeowners, contractors, and lenders alike because each operated in isolation. TGUC treats that as an orchestration problem, not a tooling one. It answers the homeowner’s core question — “Can I afford this?” — in about 90 seconds. Sometimes a contractor sends a homeowner in for approval; other times TGUC qualifies the homeowner first and matches them to a vetted contractor through SmartMatch. Either way, the homeowner reaches the contractor ready to close, with financing in place.

AI runs through both sides of the business — qualification, and now customer service, with human agents overseeing every interaction. TGUC built its AI voice automation with Edgy Design Group, the Black-owned AI firm led by Gabe Wilson: two Black-led companies building the infrastructure together, with AI that empowers the team rather than replacing it.

The point of the model is access. Home equity is one of the primary ways American families build wealth — and for generations it was systematically denied to Black families through redlining. TGUC’s capital base of credit-union and Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) partnerships is built to extend financing further down the credit spectrum, and more than half of its loans fall within CDFI Fund Target Markets — the Investment Areas and Low-Income Targeted Populations the Fund exists to reach.

TGUC is Black-founded and Black-led: its CEO, President, CFO, and Chief Growth Officer are all African American, and people of color make up 75% of its 12-person team, with women in senior leadership including their Indian Chief Product Officer and South African SVP of Finance.
